Former Ambassador to Ireland, Dublin

Part of UK in Poland

10th January 2012 Dublin, Ireland

Happy New Year!

The successful Polish Presidency is over. But 2012 is set to be another year in Britain and Poland. Even if England were drawn in Ukraine, EURO 2012 will be a highlight here and a chance to showcase the best of Poland.

British Embassy Warsaw flew the Olympic Host flag on 9 January. For the UK, 9 January marks 200 days until the start of the Olympic Games. Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games is a once in a lifetime occasion. Whilst they will leave a powerful legacy for the whole country, they also offer a unique opportunity to showcase Britain’s abilities on the world stage.

By means of the GREAT campaign, we aim to enhance the UK’s reputation here in Poland as an innovative place to do business and the most attractive destination for foreign direct investment in Europe, as well as provide a platform to champion British brands to stimulate increased interest in British goods and services on the Polish market. There will also be a British Business Embassy at Lancaster House. This will be the centrepiece of UK Trade & Investment’s international business programme during the Games, the greatest business networking occasion on the global calendar. Contact us if you want to know more.

I am certain Poland will field strong teams for both the Olympics and Paralympics. So hopefully there will be strong sporting competition between us during 2012.

  1. I was in London a few months ago, and I wish Poland to be so serious about Euro as Britain is about Olympics…. Although everything was dug out the impression I got was that everything is under control and be finished on time. I’m certian that UK will perform splendid and once again prove its preventive character.
