Nicoleta Ghita – British Ambassador for a Day

On Tuesday last week I gave up my seat as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Romania to Nicoleta Ghita, a very confident and capable young lady from Sector 5 in Bucharest.

This was part of Child Takeover Day – an initiative that started in the UK and has been brought to Romania for the first time this year by the NGO ‘Terre des Homes‘.

Nicoleta did a great job as British Ambassador for the day, meeting with staff, planning a regional visit to Cluj, preparing a speech, and hosting a reception for over a hundred guests at my Residence.

My favourite moment was when she and I were both interviewed by the public television – by a child who was taking over from a TV journalist for the day!

The initiative was timed to coincide with the International Day for the Rights of the Child.

What better way to mark it, than to make children the decision-makers for the day. And to discover that the wisdom and perspective of children has much to offer as we create the future for their generation.

  1. Martin Harris charms his audience once more! Many congrats on your diplomatic career so far….it’s certainly taken you a long way from Coll. I must say that Vienna, Kiev and Moscow seem awfully fortunate postings given your classical tastes!

  2. Thanks to the Ambassador for making the day even more memorable for the children and young people that took part.

As the person who propossed the idea for Tdh Romania I was so pleased with the outcome of the whole day for the children and young people who took part. Thanks again to the Ambassador and his Team. Nicoleta was just one star out of the other 49 children who took part in the day.
