Looking forward … S&IN India 2015

Last month I wrote a blog about the exciting events the SIN India team have been involved in. The regional SIN IMEA conference in Mumbai was an excellent venue for all ‘SINners’ to get orientated with the various collaborations and projects SIN is kicking off with this year! Although its early days, the SIN events calendar is already shaping up to be a very busy time!

This year’s Bangalore India Bio event will see Dr Abdul Ghafur, a member of the Longitude Prize Advisory Panel speaking about the Prize along with other presenters at the ‘UK-A Strategic Partner for Indian Life Science’ session on 9 February 2015.

In February we also have the UK-India workshop on Affordable Medical Technologies in Chennai and Pune run by our SIN team. This event would be a great opportunity to meet with UK experts from top organisations like the University of Cambridge, University of Strathclyde, the Health-Knowledge Transfer Network and explore common synergies in the area of tech-transfer and medical technologies.

Our funding opportunities section highlights the recently launched TSB-GITA funding call the deadline for which is April 2015. We hope that our workshops will serve as a catalyst to facilitate quality and productive UK-India collaborative partnerships. If you are interested in attending these workshops, please feel free to drop a line to Sheryl Anchan.

Moving over to our involvement in information economy SIN is involved with International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIITB) in launching the first Indian Web Observatory in Bangalore. This event will also involve a Big Data Workshop. We look forward to a productive discussion on 17 February 2015.

This February the British Council India in partnership with UK Science and Innovation Network and Department of Science and Technology (DST), India are organising a half-day workshop to examine issues facing women in STEM and to build shared understanding of best practice and common actions for improving opportunities for women to achieve their full potential in STEM careers.

March will ring in the International Conference on ‘Antimicrobial resistance, Novel Drug Discovery and Development: Challenges and Opportunities’ jointly organised by SRM University Haryana, Sonepat and International Association of Medical and Pharmaceutical Virologists (IAMPV).

With all these events to look forward to it will be interesting to see how this year is going to shape out. Keep checking back in and we’ll let you know about it all as it happens. Have a happy 2015!
