Robin Barnett

Former Ambassador to Ireland, Dublin

Part of UK in Poland

19th September 2012 Dublin, Ireland

A great day for British-Polish relations

I am delighted to announce that Foreign Secretary William Hague and Defence Minister Philip Hammond are visiting Warsaw today.

Foreign Secretary William Hague

This is the latest high level visit by UK Ministers to Poland. They will discuss a range of issues with Foreign Minister Sikorski and Defence Minister Siemoniak. These will include the Future of Europe and the Eurozone, free trade, the EU Neighbourhood policy, particularly towards its Eastern neighbours, NATO and bilateral defence co-operation, as well as other current foreign policy and defence issues such as Syria and Afghanistan.

Subsequently, the Foreign Secretary will visit the Embassy, where he will meet our staff and attend a commercial diplomacy event showcasing the UK experience in energy sector power generation and engineering, and the potential of Poland as the leading market in Emerging Europe.

Top British automotive and construction engineering brands, including Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lotus and JCB, will be on display in the Embassy garden.

The visit of will conclude with a meeting with President Komorowski. This will be an excellent opportunity to build on the ministerial discussions held earlier in the day.
