Our New SIN Intern at the Toronto Consulate General: John Preece
I’d like to introduce everyone to the newest member of our team, Dr. John Preece. John, who will introduce himself to you directly below, is our intern in Toronto. He has tons of interesting varied experience and has thrown himself enthusiastically into the SIN portfolio, starting with a blog (of which there are already more in the pipeline), an Innovation conference (which he will be telling us about in the aforementioned pipeline blog, and a number of other things we’ve got him working on (I don’t want to give you too many ideas about what he’ll be writing about, you’ll just have to keep your eyes on this space). John comes with his own social media experience and has happily agreed to actively participate in my social media and communication schemes designed to keep all our readers & stakeholders informed about what the UKinCanada Science & Innovation team is up to. Here’s John to tell you a little bit about himself:

John Preece
I began
working with the Science and Innovation Network in March 2011, and am looking
forward to facilitating important research and innovation links!
I am
originally from Manchester in the United Kingdom, but moved to West Yorkshire
for high school and Birmingham for university. I earned my M. Sci. in Chemistry
and Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering, and then travelled extensively before taking
up a lecturing position in South Korea.
I moved to Canada in early 2010, spending several months in Manitoba
before relocating to Ontario.
In my free
time, I enjoy Aikido, board gaming and photography. I also volunteer locally as
a writer-researcher with an environmental group and as a science lesson planner
with a special needs school. In addition to the SIN blog, I write about science
and pseudoscience in television and try to keep up with the enormous volume of
science news.
