Windhoek relaunches Chevening Alumni Association of Namibia (CAAN).

UK Minister for Africa, Henry Bellingham shakes hands with Chief Justice Shivute and Dr Becky Ndjoze-Ojo at the relaunch of the Chevening Alumni

I thought it was well worth highlighting a couple of key events in turn (over a series of blogs), which really helped round out the heavy commercial focus of the programme  and highlight the breadth of our activities here. The photos also help illustrate the tremendous warmth of the reception that the minister received from Namibians (official and private) across the board.

On the first evening, Mr Bellingham was joined by His Lordship the Chief Justice Peter Shivute (chevening scholar at Warwick University) and a group of other well placed former scholars for the relaunch of the Chevening Alumni Association of Namibia (CAAN) over sundowners at Hotel Thule. The hotel is perched on a hill overlooking the capital and has one of the most magnificent views of the city. The sunset was a wonderful backdrop for a celebration of British Namibian academic ties. The High Commission has awarded more than 50 scholarships for Namibians to complete masters programmes at UK universities since independence and BC administered them over the years.  Chevening scholars are marvellous ambassadors for promoting British institutional links and the benefits of UK tertiary education and skills.

The Chevening launch event was organised by our new British Council Country Director Dr Becky, R.K. Ndjoze-Ojo – and her superb all Namibian team.  We shall subsequently, update you on the festivities in a good example of UK cross government and One Platform working!
