Scarlet Pimpernel and the Chevening scholars

Chevening applications are now open!

“They seek them here, they seek them there

Those Brits they seek them everywhere,

Be they in Manaus, Recife or Sao Paulo

Those Chevening scholars are the key to tomorrow”

Funding for Chevening in Brazil will triple from 2015.  As applications for 2015/16 have just opened, I wanted to share a few points on why Chevening is such an amazing opportunity for Brazilians. The programme has been funding scholars to the UK for the past 30 years and currently provides opportunities for an average 600 students a year across 115 countries. Scholars spend one year studying a Masters level degree in one of our priority areas, at an institution of their choice. They then return to their home country to apply what they’ve learned in the UK.

The whole point of the scholarship programme is to build bridges between Brazil and UK.  We learn from Chevening scholars: this blog has seem some very interesting views from Chevening alumni on the BRICS. Outside the interweb, other alumni have helped us understand issues in Brazil such as development and human rights, infrastructure or business, public office, finance, education, media, law.  Today we have a network of over 1400 alumni here in Brazil, each of them a bridge in themselves.

In return, Chevening gives Brazilian scholars the chance to study at Masters Level in some of the best universities in the world. As well as academic excellence, they experience the full multi –cultural nature of Britain today. But the Chevening experience goes even further –  they also interact with other Chevening scholars from all over the world, being part of an unique global network.

We want to build more bridges with Brazil and, for that, we want more Brazilians to apply for Chevening scholarships than ever before. And now is the time to do it! If you are interested, apply! If you think friends or family might be interested, let them know about Chevening. The numbers for Chevening have been increasing in the last couple of years and will continue to do so. We hope to at least double the number of Brazilian alumni. So, just like the search for the Scarlet Pimpernel,  we are searching all over the country for future Chevening Scholars. Help us if you can!
