Bringing UK-US Science & Innovation to the Blogosphere

The UK and US share one of the longest, most productive scientific relationships in the world. Together, we represent over half of the world’s journal citations and nearly 40 percent of global Research & Development funding. We are truly Partners in Science.

I’ve got quite the past in the blogosphere.  In 2000, I started my first personal blog with Blog-city.com, which at the time was a completely legitimate Web service offering free hosting (a big deal at the time). I wrote about my thoughts. Whatever I wanted. I probably wrote 8 posts total. It’s long gone now. Over the ensuing 12 years, I blogged in fits and starts – sometimes I stuck with it for a while, but ultimately I’d stop posting and with time, the blogs disappeared. Most of the posts were related to science, sports, music, or politics.

On the heels of all these wildly successful personal endeavors (91 pageviews – sweet!), it’s time to do this professionally. This time, the theme is clear – Science and Innovation, specifically UK science and innovation, and collaboration between the UK and US.

The UK has a 15 person science and innovation network in the US working on building partnerships between the UK and US in research and innovation. We hold workshops in many disciplines where we bring together world-class experts to increase the value of their research. We hold events and work with state and federal government officials to raise the profile of UK science. We organize visits by prominent scientists and government officials to promote best practices in science and innovation policy.

Our team is called SIN (SIN in name but not by nature!). We cover Science and Innovation, from aerospace to zoology and everything in between and on this blog you’ll hear from all of us throughout the US, on topics including our workshops, visits, days devoted to science and innovation, and more! We are eager to start a conversation about UK-US science and innovation across the US and hope to inspire discussion and engagement among our readers.

Over the coming weeks and months, you’ll be introduced to our network and the topics we care about. We’ll have guest bloggers on topics across the whole science and innovation spectrum.
