Turbocharging, sustainable range extenders, energy recovery – do these terms interest you? Then, please make sure you attend the UK-India workshop on hybrid and electric vehicles in Pune next month on October 14th. We’re bringing a UK delegation of automotive experts to Pune to discuss potential research partnerships with India in building hybrid and electric vehicles.
Several centres of excellence on hybrid and electric vehicles are located at leading UK universities. For instance, Vehicle Energy Facility at the University of Warwick, Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Network at the Imperial College London, Electric Vehicle Centre of Excellence at Cardiff University, and Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre at the University of Bath, among several others. A multi-institution research project titled, Developing Fundamental Understanding of Technologies for Ultra Reduced Emission (FUTURE) Vehicles has been funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. This project directs research towards the low carbon vehicle components such as batteries, and power electronics, among others.
Lately, electric vehicles have created tremendous excitement in India. Earlier this year, the students of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay developed an electric racing car to participate in the Formula Student UK 2014 at the Silverstone Circuit. On the industry side, we’re already familiar with the Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles!
The UK’s expertise in hybrid and electric vehicles and India’s growing interest in building such vehicles surely warrants a discussion to determine areas where collaboration would be mutually beneficial. The potential for India-UK collaboration is this area is already demonstrated, with Mahindra already investing £20 million in new state-of-the-art facilities in the UK to support their Formula E racing team. If you’d like to participate in this dialogue, please drop me a line. I’ll keep you posted with the detailed agenda, when ready. See you in Pune!
