Committed to Copyright Awareness

The UK Intellectual Property Office partnered with the Publishers Association and Cambridge University Press to conduct a Copyright Awareness Programme on February 12, 2018. The Programme was attended by the UK Publishers and supported by the Indian Government. Mr. Rajiv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, DIPP and other Government Officials from a varieties of government sector including from DIPP, Copyright Office and MeitY extended their support in creating copyright awareness.

The level of piracy for published books in India is increasingly rapidly. The impact of unauthorised copying is not just a financial loss for the authors and publishers but also a loss of employment and government revenue. In turn, this can affect levels of investment within a country. The losses are not only financial but socio-cultural as well. In view of the above, the seminar emphasised on the commercial value of books and need to create copyright awareness amongst masses.

The event was further strengthened with presence of the people from the Music Industry who collaborated with the Publishing Industry in the fight against copyright infringement and piracy.
