British Week 2014 Guatemala – Want to join in?

As we start 2014 the Embassy is going into full planning mode for British Week.  This celebration of all things British will run from 7-15 March and include events open to the public such as family day, a fashion event and football games.   I want to focus on one event where we want people to get involved already.

On Saturday 15 March we plan to have a charity British Ball. Our Facebook followers have voted for the theme of Fantasy and Fairytales. We have so much to  draw on for inspiration we hardly know where to start: Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Gulliver, Jack and the Beanstalk, Dick Whittington and the 3 Little Pigs to name but a few. This will help us all find our inner-child and enjoy revisiting well-loved stories. More information about ticket sales to follow soon. The other reason for the ball is, of course, to raise money for charity. We have had some fabulous organisations bid in the past as there are so many NGO’s doing incredible work in this country. I think those who were successful in winning the proceeds will tell you that it was worth sending in the bid. The process this year is to send a One page PDF document including:   For how long the organization has been working in Guatemala, what is your purpose, what you would do with the money. Send it to eventos@fco.gov.uk by  7 February, so we can decide which charity to choose. Get your bids in by the deadline please.

If you want to work with us during British Week keep an eye on our Facebook page  as we will be recruiting interns to support all our activities soon.
