Coffee is my drug of choice – looks like the OAS agree

I have just got back from the UK and have seen coffee everywhere. I am not saying that the Brits have stopped loving tea, but coffee shops seem to be everywhere in the UK. One of them is promoting Guatemalan coffee from the town of Antigua. On my return to Guatemala, it is the town of Antigua that I immediately had to head to in order to attend the General assembly of the Organization of American States. The purpose of the meeting was to talk about how to tackle much more harmful and much less legal stimulants and the impact they have on the region and the rest of the world.

The UK believes it is vitally important for the international community to work together to address the significant harm drugs cause. In the 2010 UK Drug Strategy my government committed to “review new evidence on what works in other countries and what we can learn from it” and in that context we have been conducting a study on international comparators. So it was very useful for us to attend a meeting that contributes valuable evidence to the wider debate. And it was very nice to have wonderful Guatemalan coffee to drink while doing so.
