British Week 2013 – we will rock you Guatemala!

The unofficial anthem of the London Olympics became our unofficial anthem for British Week 2013. As we proved that music is Great Britain by showcasing some of the best of British music via a Queen tribute band and a charity dinner with everything from Rolling Stones to Coldplay.

But regular readers will know that British Week is so much more then one event. In fact this year was made up of 12 Events reaching 3000 people. We had British companies like BUPA and Cable and Wireless looking to do deals. We had universities such as St Andrews and LSE talking to potential students and making linkages with Guatemalan universities.

We tried some new things this year to reach new audiences such as open air cinema in Zone 1 of the city and in Antigua. We also added some innovations to our national day celebrations with a recorded message from Guatemala’s President Otto Perez Molina and, to return to the Olympic theme, from Guatemala’s first Olympic medal winner Erick Barrondo. It’s now up on YouTube (in Spanish), so take a look.

We hope all of you who joined in with us enjoyed it as much as we did. I need to thank our sponsors Energuate, Blue Oil, Grupo Progreso, Diageo, Yantarni, Drogueria Italiana, Grupo Los Tres, Cerveceria Centroamericana y Distribuidora Marte without whom it wouldn’t have been possible.

So will we do it all again next year? You bet ya
