To give and to get

One of the objectives we have for British Week is to make some money for charity. Last year we were able to raise US$32,800 for Education for the Children and Hospitatlito Atitlan. You can see from the photos that the money raised made a real difference to those projects by equipping classrooms and helping buy an ambulance. This year we will be helping the organisation Mayan Families (www.mayanfamilies.org) via concert proceeds and Vamos Adelante organisation via a raffle. But there is space for more organisations to benefit from the money we raise. If you have a registered charity in Guatemala that would like to receive funds from the British Week charity work please contact us no later than 15 February at embassy@intelnett.com. We need to know something about your organisation and how you would spend any money received. Our sponsors will then choose between the applications to decide who gets the funding.

One of the main ways we raise charity money is via an auction of unusual or valuable items at the British Ball on 2 March. This year prizes include a Chelsea shirt signed by Didier Drogba, a fabulous weekend at La Reunion and a football signed by the Guatemalan Olympic team. So if you are able to contribute to this collection it would help us make even more money for charity.

We’ve now launched all the British Week events open to the public. Check out our Facebook page (British Embassy Guatemala City) and follow us on Twitter (#BritWeek2013) to find out more.
