A British investment in humanness

British philanthropist Graham Perolls and his superb team at Casa Sperantei have been supporting Romanian charity sector for almost two decades now. As British Ambassador Martin Harris commented recently, Casa Sperantei is a British strategic investment in humanness. Graham is sharing with us details of his latest project aimed at helping terminally-ill patients in Bucharest and its surroundings.

After two years of fundraising, negotiating, designing and planning, we finally have the piece of paper which says we can build a new in-patient teaching hospice in Bucharest. On Thursday 10th November, we held a press conference at the Intercontinental Hotel to announce this great news. The hospice will be built on a plot of land adjoining the Plumbuita Lake in Sector 2 and will serve the whole of the city.

Now the hard work really starts. We still have to raise a further 2 million euros before we can open the doors (2.6 million have already been raised) and we have to recruit and train a large team of professionals who will provide services for the thousands of patients in Bucharest who need professional and compassionate care at the end of their lives.

This is why we need your help. Raising funds, especially in times like these, can be a daunting task. But it can also be rewarding and fun. So why not participate in one of our organised fund raising events (see our website for more information) like a marathon, a quiz, a Charity Ball or our new Ladies Lunch Club? Or why not organise your own? We can help you with ideas and publicity materials. Every little will help us to get the hospice open as quickly as possible.
