Visit to Vientiane Province
Our Embassy team made first contact with government officials in Vientiane Province and visited the Nam Ngum 1 Hydropower Plant site.
Lord Puttnam’s visit
Lord David Puttnam, Oscar-winning film producer and the UK Prime Ministers Trade Envoy for the region, visited Vientiane – for the second time in six months. We honoured his visit with a variety of events and meetings – ranging from education via film to trade and investment.
World Wildlife Day
We marked the first-ever World Wildlife Day by joining forces with other diplomatic missions in Laos.
We also marked the day with a joint Social Media campaign together with the EU Delegation in Laos, the French and the US Embassies.
Visit from the FCO’s ASEAN Department
Our string of visitors this March was continued by a visit from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s ASEAN Department.
Anti-money laundering cooperation with Bank of Laos
This month, we signed an agreement with the Bank of Laos on the translation of anti-money laundering legislature. This is the first step to further cooperation.
Chelsea FC in Laos
5 coaches from the Chelsea Football Club Foundation visited Lao PDR to train 180 students and 60 coaches and teachers. We were there to witness.
National Action Plan of Violence against Women and Children
Tying in with the UK government’s work on Ending Sexual Violence in Conflict and as a continuation of our cooperation with the National Commission for Mothers and Children (NCMC) last year, we participated in a consultation meeting on the Draft National Plan of Action on the Prevention and Elimination of Violence against Women and Children.
Scoping climate change cooperation
We hosted David Vincent, Head of the FCO’s South East Asia Climate Change and Energy Network. to map out opportunities to support Laos in the climate change sector.
Terrific to see such a range of activity in just one year: Crime, Education, Climate Change, Chevening and Creative Industries.

Chere Philip, cela me fait pitié beaucoup que je ne mentionnais pas les nations de membre de l ‘Alliance le South Asian des nations. Ceux- ci sont : Brunei, Birmanie , Cambodge, LÍndonésie , le Laos, la Malaisie, les Philippines, Singapour, la Thailande et le Viêt-Nam. Fondation: 1967.

it ´s for me always a great thing to read ´bout all of yours and the Embassy ´s activities in Vientiane . This time it ´s esp. the World Wildlife Day of March 3rd. plus the visit of the UK `s ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) Departement. Very interesting.
But pls. let me add the following few lines in French – for it ´s the 2nd. “Official” language spoken in Laos. Parc-que le plan d ´action national contre la violence (le pouvoir) à des femmes et enfants est ton point le plus important pour moi. Par particulièrement DES ENFANTS ne peuvent pas se défendre CONTRA de cette crimes DÊGOÛTANTS.
