The British Polish salmon, whisky and tea run!
Great job guys! I’ve just got home, put my feet up and am tucking into a great salmon sandwich, a cup of Harrogate green tea and you know what, I’m going to try some of my best single malt this evening.
It’s been a great day. Let me tell you why. My expert colleague in communications has just told me that the media have picked up on a new phenomenon. Poland is getting a taste for great British food exports. It’s more than that though.
Europe is in the middle of the biggest recession for decades and you know what – Poland is selling more than ever to the UK – and the UK’s buying! It’s the same the other way – we have just had the best export year to Poland – ever! I promise not to bore you with numbers but I have to say just a couple of words about them so here we go.
In the last 10 years Poland has increased its sales to the UK 7 times and the UK has increased its sales to Poland 4 times and the bilateral trade position has broken the 11 billion ceiling for the first time in global history. Food and drink products are rocketing at triple number %’s. What’s great to see is that on top of the usual performers Poland is getting a taste for up market Great British food products – this year great for Scotland. Poland is the fastest growing whisky market in the world; delicate up market seafood product – salmon and superb teas. The list goes on.
Why I am particularly happy is that this creates a catalyst for the future. We are brilliant at ambient foods, ready meals, foods from across the world. London and other big cities are icons of great global cuisine. Poland is developing a taste not just for Great British delicacies but also Great British food technologies which enable us to get the best in super cooking right to our doorstep.
Oh I forgot to mention – Poland is the biggest country in Central Europe with the highest growth potential. Another bit of important information – a contact of mine has just started a British-Polish Fresh Logistics chilled food and drink run so you can easily get your product in front of increasingly discerning Polish customers.
