British Week 2013: get involved!

British Week is back! It’ll be our 4th and most ambitious yet, and will be held between Sunday 26 February and Saturday 2 March.

As in previous years the Week will feature our two main social events of our calendar, the Queen’s Birthday Party (on Thursday 28 February), and the British Ball (on Saturday 2 March – if you have any ideas for the theme then let us know).

But the Week will also include activities to support the Embassy’s main objectives for our work in Guatemala, principally our efforts to continue strengthening the UK’s commercial relations with Guatemala. To this end, we’re hoping to bring here a UK trade mission, focussed on the energy, construction and mining sectors; there’s a plan to repeat the popular UK education road show with some UK universities visiting; and there’ll be an event specifically aimed at Guatemala’s young entrepreneurs. Plus there’ll be British movies, our famous whiskey and delicious food to enjoy.

We want you to be involved! So today I’m announcing a competition to design the logo that we’ll use for British Week. The winning logo will be featured on all our British Week promotion and at all of our activities. The winner will receive two free tickets to British Ball on 2 March and will be invited to attend the Queen’s Birthday Party as a Guest of Honour. Here’s the details of how to apply (in Spanish). The deadline is 23 November, so get designing!

We’ll be publishing more information about British Week 2013, as plans take shape, on this website, plus on Facebook (British Embassy Guatemala City) and on Twitter (@UKinGuatemala) using this hash tag – #BritWeek2013.
