Look what we have been up to at the Embassy this month!

Diplomatic Excellence on a visit to Laos

Matthew Rycroft, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Chief Operating Officer visited Vientiane at beginning of February  and introduced both us an Lao diplomats to the concept of #DiplomaticExcellence.

Record numbers at our visa service

A record number of 60 applications kept us busy during our third visa service on 5-7 February.

Visit to Phongsaly and Oudomxay

Our team visited the northern provinces to liaise with local government officials and inspect an Embassy cooperation project site.

#IllegalWildlifeTrade 

In the runup to the first ever global conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade in London on 11-13 February, we were sharing messages on Facebook to campaign against illegal wildlife crime. The Embassy marked the Conference in London with a reception.

Ambassador Malone with Vice Minister for Agiculture and Forestry Parisack, who represented the Lao PDR at the Conference, supported by our Embassy.

Boosting Aston University’s links to Laos

Prof. Alison Halstead, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Aston University in the UK paid a visit to Dr. Boualin, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the National University of Laos (NUOL)  to build relations with NUOL within Aston’s hub in the University of Danang in Vietnam .

JCB Product Launch

Ambassador Malone gave the keynote speech at JCB’s New Product Launch Party. One of the UK’s best known brand names, JCB is the world’s third largest construction equipment manufacturer.

Anti-corruption work

Ambassador Malone spoke at the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime’s conference reviewing the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption. Our Embassy is cooperating with UNODC in supporting the Lao government in delivering their National Action Plan on Corruption.

Illegal Wildlife Trade, take 2

Ambassador Philip Malone met Vice Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr.  Parisack  to get his feedback on his attendance at the London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade and discuss future co-operation between the UK and Laos in this area.
