There can be few countries outside the UK where the Royal Wedding is being followed more avidly than in Romania. TV coverage began a week ago, the newspapers are full of information about Prince William and his bride-to-be Kate and everyone I meet is looking forward eagerly to the big day.
That’s true even here in the remote mountainous region of Maramures where I have been spending the Easter holiday with my family. Maramures weddings are famous – an occasion when the whole village dresses up in their finest clothes and celebrates with the family of the bride and groom. A wedding is a time of joy – for the couple themselves, for their families and for the community. I am delighted that so many Romanians will join Prince William and Kate, with their families and with the whole British nation in watching the event on Friday and in celebrating this special Royal Wedding.
