We want you: working visas for exceptional talent

The UK’s immense knowledge base and world-class facilities make it a natural destination for academia’s brightest minds, and we welcome thousands of overseas students, researchers and teachers into our institutions every years.

Did you know that if you are internationally recognised in your field then you may be able to apply to work in the UK under our Exceptional Talent (Tier 1) Visa scheme? Read on for more details.

The Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) category is part of the UK’s points-based immigration system, which is used for migrants from outside of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the British Overseas Territories. We are aiming to grow our research capabilities and ability to innovate by making it easier for the best and brightest to come here and do whatever it is they do best. To ensure quality control, applications need to be endorsed by one of our learned societies (Arts Council, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering, Royal Society) and only 1,000 are made per year.
