It’s Sziget Festival time again. The Maccabees are playing on the Main Stage and I start at the European Meeting Point, greeting the Mayor of Budapest and the main Festival organiser en route. Consular assistance is available here and at the police HQ for any British fans in trouble. But hopefully there won’t be many – the basic advice is to enjoy yourselves but be sensible. If anyone offers you something that seems too good to be true, it probably is….
After seeing our Vice Consul Terez, I meet Hungarian Europe Commissioner Laszlo Andor and the Head of the EU Office in Budapest. Now the Hungarian Presidency of the EU is over, the Europe theme is less prominent than it was last year. But we can remember a job competently done by the Hungarians, and a busy 6 months when Budapest was under the spotlight, with many Ministers and Parliamnetarians visiting from the UK and elsewhere. It’s a completely different crowd at Sziget.
