Jerudong International School’s Higher Education Evening

On Tuesday I enjoyed taking part in a university briefing evening at Jerudong International School (JIS). The event was aimed at school students about to start applying to universities.

Last year, 58% of JIS students who went to university chose to study in the UK. So I was pleased but not surprised to see a lot of interest in the UK briefings. In my introduction, I emphasised the number of international students in the UK – over 435,000 in 2014. We had 34 of the world’s top 200 universities.

There has never been more choice for students, but that makes it all the harder for each individual to decide what to study and where. A good starting point is www.educationuk.org

Anyone interested in studying in the UK can also get information from my colleague Cecile Dasal at the British High Commission – her email is: Cecile.Dasal@britishcouncil.org.my

Above all, a date for school students and their families to save is Sunday 21 February. The UK Education Exhibition will be held from 2pm – 7pm at The Empire Hotel. Representatives of 40 British universities will be happy to answer any questions about course options, university life or any other aspects of studying in the UK. Entry to the Exhibition is free and also includes optional seminars on how to write a great personal statement, how to choose a course and also a special session on studying law in the UK.

By the way, those who pre-register at bn.edukexhibition.org stand the chance of winning a Smart TV. I hope to see you at the Exhibition.
