With events in Gaza and the shooting down of flight MH17, the BRICS Summit might seem a long time ago now. However, our posts from Chevening alumni from Brazil, China and India all show how we must not forget the long term in international relations. Peng Xiang, a Chevening alumni form China wrote ‘ If the BRICS break the barriers between each other, they will become the most important bricks of the world economy’. The BRICS face challenges of moving from declarations to action . However, as Floriano Filho (Brazil Chevening alumni ) wrote ‘as the strengthening of the BRICS is just starting to take shape, it seems too early to reach conclusion’. What is clear for me though is that the BRICS can no longer be dismissed as an artificial concept from a journalist.
