WELSH, English and Gurkha soldiers are working with Afghan policemen and women to teach the skills needed for work on the streets of Afghanistan.
Soldiers from the 1st Battalion the Welsh Guards, The Light Dragoons, the 1st Battalion the Royal Anglian Regiment (The Vikings) and the Queenâs Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment are responsible for mentoring and assisting the Afghan instructors who are teaching new recruits and seasoned veterans of the Afghan Uniformed Police and the Afghan Border Police.
Having taken over this role from the Princess of Walesâ Royal Regiment in April, the troops are based in the Lashkar Gah Training Centre in the provincial capital of Helmand and will continue training and mentoring the Afghan National Police during their six months tour of duty.
